Recorded Webinar: Managing a Flexible Workplace with Inflexible Staff

28th November 2019
Duration: approx.  1 hour

You've spoken and we've listened. From 1/8/19 we've structured most of our webinars to run for one hour - the ideal length for staff training sessions. And, for most of you the webinars will be held at lunchtime - the ideal time for attending live webinars.
Employers and employees alike value flexibility in the workplace. However, a key challenge can be managing roles which require flexibility, such as shift work, with casual and part time staff who have inflexible requirements. Employers are often left asking: ‘How can I lawfully gain flexibility out of inflexible staff?’ This session provides the answers:

  • Identifying inflexibility issues: family responsibilities, sick leave and absences, inability to work particular rosters

  • To what extent do employers need to make exceptions for staff? What sort of reasonable adjustments are required?

  • When is flexibility an inherent requirement of the job?

  • Identifying potential legal risks when failing to accommodate inflexibility:

    • discrimination claims

    • general protection claims

  • Case law update
