Disclosure takes many forms and is an essential part of your professional obligations. There are many ways that ethical breaches can arise through disclosure or failing to disclose what should have been. This session examines the ethics issues with disclosure to the client in the practitioner-client relationship:

  • Disclosure of current and former client conflicts
  • Disclosure of a solicitor’s personal conflicts
  • The ongoing duty of disclosure to your client
  • When nondisclosure is an ethical breach
  • Disclosure and regular communication – is silence unethical?
  • Disclosure to third parties – when is this an ethical breach
  • Client confidentiality and disclosure – understanding professional obligation
  • Solicitor conduct rules and disclosure obligations – ensuring compliance

Session 3:  Practice Management & Business Skills:  The Future of Legal Marketing: Your Digital Strategy and Online Brand

In the digital age, online marketing is a key part of building your profile. However, you need to understand what the limits are. Sometimes, it can be difficult to know what is and isn’t appropriate. This session looks at the importance of marketing to your practice and the digital techniques to help promote your brand. It covers:

  • Devising a social media marketing strategy
  • Digital marketing – understanding the traps and pitfalls:
    • inappropriate or unethical digital marketing
    • ineffective use with little returns
    • time-consuming newsletters and blogs – are they worth it?
  • Social media as part of your firm’s overarching strategic plan
  • Developing a social media policy for marketing – the who, what, when, and how for social media
  • Incorporating digital marketing in your business plan
  • Gaining clarity on the type of practice you have – the key to digital marketing success
  • The importance of digital marketing that is measurable and tracking the results
