Property developments generally involve two stages from a duty point of view: acquisition of the land to be developed and the resale of subdivided lots once the development is complete. In recent years, various techniques have been used to eliminate the first acquisition. This presentation reviews those methods and considers their duty implications.

Ken is a certified practicing accountant since 1985 and started in the accounting area in 1981 working primarily for large publically listed multi nationals with both local and overseas assignments. His responsibilities included the establishment of businesses and trading entities in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Unites States, as well as representing the group to international investors. After leaving the commercial arena Ken commenced his own company assisting entrepreneurs raise equity including R&D Government Grants.
 
It was during these times that Ken expanded his existing interests in property investing as well as setting up an educational arm to show investors the practical aspects of property investing including feasibility studies, approaching banks and asset protection techniques. Ken joined Ed Chan and David Naylor as a partner in 2004 and is a Director of Chan & Naylor Australia Pty Ltd. Since that time Chan & Naylor has grown from one accounting site to 15 offices with 24 separate businesses nationally and was voted BRW’S Fastest Growing Accounting Firm in 2013.
