Sydney was formerly a lecturer in the subject “Damages and Remedies” offered by the University of Technology Sydney in its Master of Laws program and is an expert determiner approved by the NSW Bar Association.

Sydney has also authored the following publications: Commercial Damages (Thomson Reuters, 2008), Damages in a Commercial Context (LBC, 2000), Injunctions: Law and Practice (Thomson Reuters, 2005).

Sydney was previously at Minter Ellison and Deacons Graham and James (cumulatively about 6 years, incl as a senior associate at DGJ), in their specialist Construction Law Divisions: negotiating and drafting large infrastructure contracts eg on behalf of Qantas for the break-through of the subway tunnel into its premises; for State Rail in relation to the acquisition of bogeys; and litigating large construction disputes eg the dispute involving the Duxton Hotel; and also commercial litigation on behalf of various clients including the Samoan government.
